There has been plenty of sport on this week, with the Cheltenham Festival event coming to a close today and the Europa League and Champions League Quarter Final draws, we’re bringing you all the action to round up the week and give you a head start for the weekend..


Europa League

The Europa League last 16 second games were played this week, with Manchester United beating Rostov at Old Trafford on Thursday thanks to a goal from Juan Mata, this was enough to secure their place in the next round as the only English club in the tournament.

Besiktas, Genk, Celta Vigo, Ajax, Lyon, Schalke, and Anderlecht also progress into the last 8.

The quarter-final draw has taken place and the following fixtures will be played in April, the first legs on the 13th and second legs on 20th April 2017:

  • Anderlecht v Manchester United
  • Celta Vigo v Genk
  • Ajax v Schalke
  • Lyon v Besiktas

Champions League

Leicester City is the only English side left in the Champions League competition after their win over Europa League winners Sevilla. Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane believes every manager will want to avoid the Foxes “I don’t think there will be a single coach who is hoping they face Leicester ” he told BBC Sport.

The first legs of the quarter-finals will be played on the 11-12th April with the second legs played on the 18-19th.

The upcoming fixtures announced in today’s draw include:

  • Atletico Madrid V Leicester City
  • Borussia Dortmund V Monaco
  • Bayern Munich V Real Madrid
  •  Juventus V Barcelona


Six Nations

Three 5th round games take place this weekend on Saturday 18th:

Scotland V Italy at 12:30 – Scotland have won 10 games, with Italy winning 7 so far in the competition, with Italy losing their last four matches.

France V Wales at 14:45 – France have the home team advantage for this match and have won more games than Wales in the tournament so far, so the Welshmen will feel they have something to prove.

England V Ireland at 17:00 – Ireland have won 9 games, with England winning 8 in the competition so far, however England head into this fixtures with 4 consecutive wins under their belt.


BBL & WBBL Trophy Finals

The British Basketball League (BBL) and Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) trophy finals are taking place in Glasgow this weekend. With BBL sides Leicester Riders and Plymouth Raiders competing for the BBL trophy and WBBL sides Leicester Riders V Sevenoaks Suns also battling for the WBBL trophy.

BBL’s Leicester Riders are heading into the final with a club record 15 game win streak behind them, so the Leicester side should be full of confidence.

These games take place on Sunday 19th March:

WBBL sides Leicester Riders V Sevenoaks Suns at 12:30 pm for the Women’s final.

BBL Leicester Riders V  Plymouth Raiders 3:30 pm for the Men’s final.
